The Audio/Video Department provides copies of audio and video records for all proceedings in Circuit Court, Family Court and District Court. The public can also access these records from Listening Stations located within the office. 

It takes two to four days to process requests once payment has been received. Records from confidential cases can be requested only by a party to the case or his or her attorney pursuant to judicial order.

  • Audio Cassette (per 90-minute tape) - $10 (Audio cassettes are limited to night Traffic Court proceedings, with a few exceptions)
  • Audio CD (per 70-minute CD) - $10

Video Recording

  • VHS - $20
  • Digital CD - $20

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q: What information do I need to obtain a copy of a hearing?
    A:  The name of the parties (style of the case), case number, division and date of the hearing.

    Q: Can I get a copy of the recording on DVD?
    A: No, records are not captured on DVD. Records are available on VHS tape, audio CD or digital CD and are copied in the format in which they were originally recorded. Digital CDs require a computer for playback.

    Q: How long are the recordings of hearings maintained?
    A: Records for Circuit Court and Family Court are generally available back to the mid-1980s. District Court records are maintained for five years.

    Q: Can I get a written transcript of a court proceeding?
    A: No, written transcripts are not available.

    Glossary

    Digital Recording. Digital recordings are audio/video digital files from Circuit Court, Family Court and some District Court hearings. These are .asf files and will play back on any computer media player such as Windows Media Player, which is standard on most computers.

    Media Player. A computer software program that plays audio and video files. There are many media players for PC and Mac computers. Windows Media Player is standard on most computers and there is a version available to download for Macs.

    Audio Recording. Audio recordings are audio-only sound files from District Court hearings.
