The Budget Office serves as the staff to the Director in coordinating the budgeting functions of the Judicial Branch.

In order to accomplish this responsibility, the Budget Office will:

• Oversee the preparation and execution of the annual operating budget for the Judicial Branch.
• Oversee the preparation of Judicial Branch's Biennial Budget Recommendation and the Judicial Branch Budget Request to the General Assembly.
• Provide analysis of legislation for fiscal or programmatic impact and attends legislative committee meetings.
• Respond to both external and internal requests for information.
• Serve as the liaison to the Governor's Budget Office and the Legislative Budget Office.
• Provide staff assistance in program reviews.

FUNDING OF THE JUDICIAL BRANCH
Since the inception of the unified court system, the Judicial Branch is funded by appropriations from the Kentucky General Assembly. All of the funds collected by the court system from filing fees and court costs are deposited into the state treasury with the exception of three receipts, which are retained locally, and third party money. The Law Library fee, the County Jail fee and the Sheriff Security fee are distributed at the local level.

Welcome to the Office of Budget and Policy's newly formulated Division of Grant Review. During the past few years grant application processes have changed significantly. Competition for funding, application submission requirements, level and quality of reporting post-award, and expectations regarding project sustainability have increased dramatically. This is a trend that is likely to continue well into the foreseeable future.

The Division of Grant Review is here to assist Kentucky Court of Justice elected officials and personnel in preparing grant applications. Our services include: notification of available funding, project planning and research, assisting with application narratives, resource development, editing, development of budget narratives, application submissions, and follow-up correspondence with funding agencies.
